Winter Storm Monday/Weather Advisories Issued

Thunder Snow?

A Winter storm is scheduled to produce a wide swath of 1-3" of snow across the Tri-State area with locally higher amounts of 4"+. There may also be some thunder snow with this system which could cause an area to receive even higher amounts. While it does not look like a big storm to most of the experts we are continuing to watch this system. Here are a few key factors:

* Snow will be wet with temps. appraoching 32°

* Snow will be coming from the Southwest with Gulf moisture

* A period of sleet or freezing rain or drizzle may mix in

* Storm track/Further North means more snow than expected

* Snow could have major travel impacts in the afternoon hours

* Snow may end with a period of freezing drizzle

The only feature that this weather center does not contain that may be purchased with ACU>RITE's other weather center is a rain guage which can be purchased seperately or comes with the $99.00 center. Next Snow Storm

Snow Lovers Paradise

It has been a long and disappointing Winter season for snow lovers in the Tri-States but that long wait may pay off on Monday. At this time there is a 100% chance of snow on Monday with snow accumulations around 2-4" expected. However, there are many factors that could cut the amount of snow we see dramatically. A track further South limiting moisture and dry air in place from the current Arctic cold blast may cut these numbers down quite a bit. If the storm tracks further to the North we could be talking about 3-5" of snow with abundant moisture. This storm is just entering the U.S. and will be better sampled later today to determine what this storm might do. Stay tuned to the Lewistown MO StormWatchers for further details. Arctic Cold Lashes Out On The Tri-States

A Long Time Coming

An Arctic air mass has broke free and made its way back into the Tri-States after a very tranquil Winter to this point. Temperatures began to fall Friday afternoon and with the fall came gusty winds and nasty wind chills.

Current Temperatures

Current temperatures are still in quite a contrast from Northwest to Southeast across the county watch area. The Jacksonville, IL area continues to be the warmest and the Ottumwa, IA area continues to be the coldest. However, factor in winds that have been gusting up to 25 mph at times and wind chills have dropped to 7° below zero to 5° above zero. Highs will not rebound much today with temperatures struggling to make it to 20° in some spots. Another cold night is ahead followed by a slightly warmer Sunday before a potential significant Winter storm moves in Sunday night thru Monday night. More details on this storm to come!
