Arctic Cold Lashes Out On The Tri-States

A Long Time Coming

An Arctic air mass has broke free and made its way back into the Tri-States after a very tranquil Winter to this point. Temperatures began to fall Friday afternoon and with the fall came gusty winds and nasty wind chills.

Current Temperatures

Current temperatures are still in quite a contrast from Northwest to Southeast across the county watch area. The Jacksonville, IL area continues to be the warmest and the Ottumwa, IA area continues to be the coldest. However, factor in winds that have been gusting up to 25 mph at times and wind chills have dropped to 7° below zero to 5° above zero. Highs will not rebound much today with temperatures struggling to make it to 20° in some spots. Another cold night is ahead followed by a slightly warmer Sunday before a potential significant Winter storm moves in Sunday night thru Monday night. More details on this storm to come!
